Tech Gadgets as Necessities
Part of my daily routine at the office is browsing through Yahoo! Answers to find people who have questions about hotels in the Philippines. I asked my team to do the same and now two of our team members are hooked on Answers! Hahaha! Yesterday Raymond, our copywriter, stumbled upon this Question that goes “Could you live a normal life without a cellular phone?” The Answers that followed it are all saying “Yes, I can live without a cellular phone..” but only Raymond answered this way:
I bet the first instinct you have in answering this question is say “Yes, I CAN live without it.” I, on the other hand, have to say I CAN’T. Make no mistake there are days when I virtually don’t need it but then… if there are days when you don’t need it, there will be days when you’ll be desperate for it.
I also agree that it’s just instinct to say “Yes” because the truth is, it’s so hard to live without a mobile phone these days. I left my cell phone at home last Monday and I had the hardest time getting in touch with the two people I was gonna meet that night. I even resorted to using the payphone! Not that it’s a weird thing, but it’s just unusual. Something I haven’t done in a very long time. Heehee.
I hardly remember how it was back in the days when not everyone has a mobile phone. Only daddies carry (a bulky with the long antenna) one which was only necessary for work. A cell phone back then is a luxury. Today it’s a necessity (well, almost). One can easily live without a landline telephone but not a cellular phone. This, IMO, is usually how it is today. Or at least it is in the Philippines.
Nowadays it is very common to see individuals investing in technology such as LCD monitors, digital cameras, PDAs, mobile phones, and other tech products. Even I, myself, am surprised to see myself investing in these (and am now trying to save money to buy a new gadget. LOL.). The HP Pavilion laptop looks veeeerry tempting (Congratulations to Ganns who just got his Compaq Presario laptop by the way! :)), and I hope I don’t fall into this kind of temptation! :D
