I've learned it the hard way and not only lost my blog posts once but twice that's why you'll see in my archives that there's a gap between the first few months in 2006. It can backup, manage, optimize and repair your database right from your Wordpress panel. It can also Empty/Drop tables and even Run SQL queries. The most recent version can now do scheduled backups like what the WP Database backup does. I never get tired evangelizing about the importance of backups. Every now and then I'll get 2 or 3 spam comments stuck in my moderation queue but the rest get eaten by akismet. I'm always logged into my wordpress admin so I go through and remove all spam comments directly after logging in and just before logging out for the night. It's a mixture of paranoia and not wanting to skim over a good comment mistakenly shoved in akismet due to a pileup. There's also another akismet related plugin that I find useful. It's called htaskimet rules. You set some 'rules' and based on said rules certain recurring spam commenters are auto banned from your site. I think it does more but I haven't played with it since I first set it up *blush* akismet is my best wordpress friend.
